Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Reverse Engineering Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will use advanced 3D scanning technology to reverse engineer automotive components such as OEM interior items, seals, body parts, and other critical components. You will refine CAD models based on scan data and work closely with vendors to ensure accurate reproduction of the parts. Additionally, you will leverage rapid prototyping techniques to validate designs quickly. This position requires a solid understanding of CAD modeling, manufacturing processes, rapid prototyping, and vendor management in the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- 3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering:
- Operate 3D scanners to capture accurate data from various automotive components.
- Analyze scan data to reverse engineer OEM parts, ensuring high fidelity and precision.
- Create detailed CAD models from scan data, making necessary refinements to ensure manufacturability and performance.
- CAD Modeling:
- Develop 3D models of automotive components, including interior parts, seals, and exterior body parts, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Modify and optimize existing CAD models for improvements or adjustments based on engineering requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate designs for functionality and durability.
- Rapid Prototyping:
- Utilize rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing and additive manufacturing to quickly develop prototypes for testing and validation.
- Work with internal teams or external suppliers to produce prototypes based on refined CAD models.
- Analyze and iterate on prototype designs to address performance, durability, and manufacturability concerns.
- Vendor Management & Production Support:
- Research and identify vendors capable of producing reverse-engineered parts with high precision and quality.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure accurate manufacturing of components, including managing prototype development and production timelines.
- Communicate technical specifications to vendors, ensuring they understand the material, design, and production requirements.
- Perform quality checks and coordinate testing to ensure the final product meets original specifications.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed engineering reports, technical drawings, and documentation of all reverse-engineered components.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards throughout the reverse engineering process.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD software, and automotive manufacturing technologies.
- Propose and implement process improvements to enhance reverse engineering efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in reverse engineering, 3D scanning, and CAD modeling, preferably in the automotive industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
- Experience with 3D scanning technologies and software (e.g., Creaform, FARO, or similar).
- Strong understanding of rapid prototyping technologies, including 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials commonly used in automotive parts production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage external vendor relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with OEM automotive components and industry-specific standards.
- Knowledge of various production techniques such as injection molding, casting, and machining.
- Familiarity with quality assurance and testing protocols for automotive parts.
